The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) program under Tribhuvan University's (TU) Faculty of Law is designed for students who already hold a graduate degree and wish to transition into the legal profession.
Unlike the 5-year BA-LL.B. program aimed at high school graduates, the traditional LL.B. is a 3-year academic program operating on an annual examination system.
The curriculum demands a total of 1,600 marks spread across three years, balancing foundational law, procedural systems, and practical training.
First Year (600 Marks): 5 Compulsory Subjects + 2 Optional Subjects. Focuses heavily on structural basics like Jurisprudence, Procedural Law, Public International Law, and Constitutional Law.
Second Year (600 Marks): 6 Compulsory Subjects + 2 Optional Subjects. Delves into practical frameworks including Criminal Law, Property Law, Methods of Legal Research & Writing, and a mandatory Moot Court & Trial Participation module.
Third Year (400 Marks): 3 Compulsory Subjects + 2 Optional Subjects. Covers advanced specialized legal fields such as Comparative Law & Nepalese Legal System, Interpretation of Statutes, Company Law, Professional Ethics, and an academic Seminar presentation.
Prerequisite Degree: You must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline (such as B.A., B.Sc., BBS, or BBM) from Tribhuvan University or an equivalent recognized institution. A minimum aggregate score of 45% (or a CGPA of 2.0) is typically required.
The Entrance Exam: Admission is strictly merit-based and requires clearing a centralized written entrance exam conducted by the Faculty of Law Dean's Office. The test screens candidates on basic legal aptitude, English/Nepali communication skills, and general knowledge.
Core Entrance Topics: Standard entry topics include introduction to law, sources of law, the role of law in society, concepts of rights and duties, and core highlights of the Constitution of Nepal (particularly Fundamental Rights).
The program uses an annual board exam layout managed by the university. To pass any individual paper, you must score a minimum of 35%, and clearing all papers sequentially is mandatory to successfully earn the LL.B. graduation degree and become eligible for the Nepal Bar Council licensing examinations.
